In 1912, Chandler was founded, and in 1954 it was incorporated as a city. History of Chandler, AZ

The history of Chandler has a huge agricultural base, having been named after a veterinarian- Dr A.J. Chandler.  In 1912, the town of Chandler was founded. In 1920, it was incorporated as the Town of Chandler. By 1920, the city has over 1,000 residents. Cars became the main mode of transportation in Chandler. 
 
The status of Chandler was changed to city in 1954 and since then, it experienced a considerable growth. The city’s population grew since 1980. Also, the city witnessed an economic growth and diversification, adding technology and manufacturing sectors to the agricultural economy.  In the recent years, the population has increased, it is over 240,000 today.
